– Is there such a thing as resting too much?
As I teach the Intentional Resting method, which is an active engaging of a restful state, you can’t rest too much. I rest while I’m walking, eating , exercising, sleeping, talking, anything and everything.
– What if I’ve been using Intentional Resting and I’m feeling exhausted.
There are a couple of really common experiences when people start using Intentional Resting. One, they experience a deep calm and feel energized, or they start feeling just how exhausted they are as they start shifting away from adrenaline, and sometimes both experiences happen in the same person at different times. Keep tapping into your body’s ability to rest…
– What if I’m getting so energized by resting I don’t sleep?
If you find yourself awake in the night you can simply stay with the process of resting rather than resisting or being in conflict with the fact that you’re awake. By accessing deeper levels of rest, sometimes a person’s sleep patterns change.
– What if there’s a spot in my body that I’ve rested and rested for and just doesn’t change?
Sometimes there’s a combination or an ‘ah-ha’ that’s needed to unwind these places. I like to try different things like; resting for specific organs, organ systems, or personalities like the “perfectionist” or the “overachiever.” The harder you work at resting, the less result you’ll get. Take your time. Experiment with resting for one thing at a time and give each area a full minute or more.
I invite you to explore and play with how Intentional Resting works best for you and please share what you find!
– What about the messages your body is giving you with pain or fatigue. Is using Intentional Resting going to not honor those?
I call these messages “body tosses” or a way that your body is wanting to get your attention. When you rest for an area of your body you aren’t pushing or ignoring the messages, you’re bringing loving attention to them. If you don’t feel a calming sensation, don’t push. If you rest while you’re participating in an activity and you feel some pain and you rest for it and don’t get relief, then stop the activity. Don’t stress your body. You are responsible for your own experience.
– Does it work to rest for a goal or something I want?
I’ve found that it isn’t as effective to rest for an external outcome. Intentional Resting is an internal experience of dropping into yourself and creating space for possibilities. What doesn’t work is ” trying” to rest. You could experiment with resting for your emotions or resting for your attachments to outcome. You can also rest for anything that might be in the way of you achieving that goal or manifesting what you want.
